WINTER SEASONAL MAINTENANCE

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

The Village of Mount Prospect is accepting applications for the position of Temporary Winter Seasonal Maintenance.  The position assists the Department in snow and ice removal operations as well as perform routine skilled and unskilled tasks associated with the maintenance of Village streets, storm sewers, traffic systems, signs, and sidewalks.

 

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities primarily focused on all snow-related tasks, maintenance and repairs.  Performs a variety of maintenance, repairs, services, and installations on all Village owned infrastructure and properties, during periods of dry weather.

Also performs a variety of tasks necessary  to achieve goals of the Public  Works Department, as determined  by the Director of Public Works, using manual labor and construction trade skills; operates one or more types of equipment  including  loaders, backhoes, vacuum  trucks, televising truck; etc.; and other duties as assigned.  The work often requires extensive physical strength and endurance, including the ability to stand, bend, pull, push, kneel and regularly lift more than 100 pounds at any time and to withstand extended exposure to the elements.   Employees may be assigned and rotated at the employer’s option to any job assignment or any shift.  On call and overtime work assigned by rotation among all maintenance employees. Overtime work is mandatory.

 

Educational Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

 

Experience Requirements:

Provide proof of satisfactory past work-related experience in the Public Works or Construction Trades.  One (1) year of prior municipal (or similar) work experience preferred.

A valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B, or equivalent.

 

Starting Rate:  $28.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Temporary employees are not eligible for benefits.

Work Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm, December 1 to April 30.  Total hours not to exceed 1000 from date of hire. Schedule may change depending on operational needs.

Any offer of employment will be conditioned upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, which includes a drug and alcohol screen.
