Tell us about your journey into the profession:
After working in movie production for 7 years, I decided to move to Chicago and earn a Master’s Degree in Public Policy. I applied for the management intern program in East Dundee in August in 2023 and haven’t looked back since! My role has evolved from digitizing records to leading a new branding campaign, managing two development projects, and staffing various committees and commissions.
Why is local government a good career path?
Local Government is a good career path as it offers a variety of roles and development opportunities while having a direct impact within public service and a community. Working in local government provides job stability, the chance to engage in various responsibilities, and the opportunity to work on diverse projects. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with a wide array of individuals, including developers, contractors, municipal officials, residents, and community members.
Fun fact about yourself:
I love to travel and was fortunate enough to spend a semester abroad in Cape Town, SA during college.
If you could give one piece of advice to future local government leaders, what would it be?
I would say foster collaboration in any form you can with both co-workers and residents alike. It make take compromises, but working on a project with that perspective can help create a disarming foundation for dialogue that pays dividends long-term.
