The Village of Tinley Park (population approx. 56,000) has an exciting opportunity for a municipal government professional to join the Village Manager’s Office in the role of Assistant to the Village Manager. Under the direction of the Village Manager and Assistant Village Manager, this position will provide administrative support implementing Village policies and programs as established by the Village Board.
The Assistant to the Village Manager will provide a broad range of administrative support and project management related to village-wide initiatives and day-to-day municipal operations directly assisting the Village Manager and Assistant Village Manager. Scope of responsibilities include general administrative duties and special assignments including risk management, licensing functions, strategic planning, budget management, organizational training, and organizational efficiencies.
Primary duties include assisting in village board agenda preparation including drafting, reviewing, and finalizing agenda items as well as performing research and preparing correspondence. Will conduct comprehensive studies and analysis of a wide range of municipal policies, programs, organizational structures, procedures, services, and make recommendations. Will assist in the preparation, coordination, review, and presentation of the Village’s annual operating and capital improvement budget including coordinating budget with Finance Department staff and discussing budget proposals with departmental representatives. This position will also serve as project coordinator for a variety of projects and initiatives from the Village Manager’s office including liability insurance, numerous licensing functions, village-wide training initiatives, grant processes, and numerous other sensitive projects. In addition, this position will handle constituent services and respond to questions from the public (residents, businesses, etc.), handle intergovernmental relations as delegated by the Village Manager, participate in staff meetings, support discussion and review of village issues and priorities, serve as a liaison for projects having a general village-wide impact, and assist commission and committee liaisons.
Masters Degree in Public or Business Administration is required. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in city or village government in an administrative or management position is required.

They must be able to maintain strict confidentiality and use necessary discretion in the execution of job duties.
Compensation & Benefits: The salary range for this position is $76,057 – $106,480 DOQ plus a generous benefit package including medical, dental, and vision benefits, employer-paid life insurance and other ancillary benefit options. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. In addition, paid holiday, vacation, personal, and sick days are provided.
